Vancouver police continue to target street vendors in the Downtown Eastside.

Since the beginning of the year, police have been handing out tickets for jaywalking and street vending in an effort to crackdown on disorderly conduct.

Advocacy societies like Pivot Legal and Portland Hotel are urging the police board to void the tickets since the majority of the people will not be able to pay them.

Const. Lindsey Houghton had said in an interview that police will continue to ticket street vendors because the majority of the items being sold are stolen.

Yesterday, I saw two police officers threaten two female vendors with fines for selling used T-shirts and a pair of worn out boots.

Now, I cannot say with certainty whether or not the items were stolen but I hardly doubt that anyone is missing their T-shirt and old boots.

I understand the need for police to tackle disorderly conduct within the city - but to target one specific community? Not so much.

Perhaps the crackdown should include a few more streets.

I have yet to see any businessman or woman being slapped with a ticket for jaywalking on Robson Street.
